If you know Bryan & I, you know we love being cozy. We have a good 5-6 months of cold weather in Ohio, so we’ve been accumulating a nice stash of fuzzy throws and pillows and bedding that we love adding to each year. When Garnet Hill reached out about partnering this fall to promote their flannel bedding, it was an easy YES. The nights are getting cooler and we’ve been itching to add some new pieces to our collection of cozyness. We’re excited to show you what our bed looks like now, and share tips on how to create one for yourself.
play with COLOR, BUT BE INTENTIONAL
All white bedding is our go-to 99% of the time, but there is one exception: flannel bedding in the fall and winter seasons. There’s just something about fun plaids and holiday patterns that add much-needed comfort and nostalgia during the cooler months. We break our own rules just about every year when it starts getting cold out, and have no plans to stop. That said, we don’t go too crazy with color because a bedroom should promote rest and comfort and relaxation. We chose a creamy duvet cover with small red berries that pop, but don’t take over or feel too loud.

100% COTTON flannel bedding
Flannel bedding instantly makes a bed feel cozier, but it can sometimes feel too hot. I love that Garnet Hill’s flannel is 100% cotton, so it still has that crisp, cotton feel — just softer. It’s brushed multiple times on both sides for softness, and is free of harmful substances that can be found in other bedding materials. We chose a neutral striped pattern for our sheet set to tie in with our patterned flannel duvet (also 100% cotton), and love how it feels at night!

lots of layers
We like to have a variety of layers on our bed that we can pull on or off easily. The base layer in our bed is our soft, striped flannel sheet set (confession: we usually end up pushing the top sheet off the bed every night… anyone else?). On top of that is a fuzzy two-sided blanket that’s almost heavy enough to keep us warm all night but not quite. I love that this blanket has two different sides (one is soft and fuzzy, and the other feels like a down comforter), but also completely breathable. At the end of the bed, we keep our flannel duvet folded in half so that we can easily pull it up over us at night if we want. Last, a crinkled cotton coverlet sits on top of the duvet and adds another texture to the mix while tying in with our creamy color scheme.

CREATE BALANCE BY mixing and matching
I love that Garnet Hill allows you to choose sheets, pillowcases, and duvets a-la-carte. It makes it easy to mix and match bedding to create a more curated, custom look. When mixing patterns, having a consistent color scheme is important. It helps different elements feel like they belong together, even though they’re all different. Everything from sheets, blankets, the duvet and pillows should coordinate and have balance throughout the bed.
